What drives you to seek fitness in the first place

The #1 question I get from “fans”: how can I get motivated to start working out? 

I can’t answer that question for you. You must answer that question yourself. I will only ask you questions and I imagine it would go something like this, since this is how 99% of my converastions go:

ME: Ah, motivation. A noble quest indeed. Tell me, what is it that truly motivates you? What drives you to seek fitness in the first place?

Procrastinator: I suppose I want to be healthier, to feel better about myself, and to have more energy to tackle life’s challenges.

ME:  if health, self-improvement, and vitality are your goals, why do you delay taking action toward achieving them?

Procrastinator: Perhaps it’s because I fear failure. What if I start working out and then give up? What if I’m not able to stick with it?

ME: Ah, the fear of failure. A common obstacle on the road to self-improvement. But tell me, is it not better to try and fail than to never try at all?

Procrastinator: I suppose you’re right,  but how do I overcome this fear and take that first step?

ME: Ah, an excellent question, my friend. Perhaps the answer lies not in overcoming fear entirely, but in acknowledging it and pressing forward despite it. Tell me, what small action can you take today, however modest, to move closer to your fitness goals?

Procrastinator: Well, I could start by going for a short walk or doing a quick set of push-ups at home.

ME: A splendid idea! And tell me, how do you feel about this small step towards your goals?

Procrastinator: Surprisingly, I feel a sense of accomplishment, however small. It’s as if taking action has lifted a weight off my shoulders.

ME: Indeed, my friend. For it is in the doing, however humble, that we find the courage to overcome our fears and move closer to our aspirations.
